Bethea Speedway is an R-1 class racing venue situated in Erios' Kryos desert. It hosts the 25 Hours of Bethea and serves as the site of the HSRL's Nabethea Grand Prix. The venue is also remembered for the 2791 Res'ae collapse, an incident that claimed the lives of several E.S.B. workers.
TURN 4 SUPERSTRUCTURE, BETHEA SPEEDWAY
Built around Mt. Nabethea by the Upper Den Performance Club, the track winds through some of the most daunting features of the Res'ae range.

The Nabethean region of the Res'ae mountain range is dominated by colossal glacier formations, expansive cave networks, and featured multiple peaks, including one of Erios' tallest: Mt. Nabethea. The area had been overseen by the Erios Scientific Board (E.S.B.) for nearly a century, but had become uncertain in 2766 when Adept's 45th Regency - comprising mostly of Stanton Hundy's New Independence Coalition (the "Incos") - voted to cut funding to the E.S.B, declaring that the resources going to the organization "were a waste, and could have been going towards Adept's expansion."
Left to rely on public crowdfunding, the Board found very little success.
By 2775, the E.S.B. announced that they intended to sell the Nabethean region of Res'ae; a last-ditch effort to keep themselves afloat. Even through the 47th Regency, the continued influence of the Incos kept any motion of funding the E.S.B. off the table.
In 2776, the Board finalized the sale of the Nabethean region to the Upper Den.
☰〔UPPER DEN〕BRIEF CONTEXT
The Upper Den Performance Club is the private organization that oversees Bethea Speedway. It began from small lunch-talks in the office of a particularly objectionable hedge-fund.
Ultra-wealthy and with delusions of being consequence-free, they started hosting illegal racing events in the lower zones of Adept. However, the group disbanded when a member was tried for multiple counts of fraud and money laundering.
A few years later, a few members from the group reunited under the name "Upper Den," as the new owners of the Nabethean region.
Upper Den wasn't exactly their ideal buyer. The intent was clear that much of the landscape's natural features would be razed over to make way for entertainment infrastructure. However, Upper Den had the most generous offer and no competition, so the Board was forced to accept.
Construction efforts started in 2777, weaving a track through some of Mt. Nabethea's surrounding glaciers and into the Bethean cave system. Using existing access routes from the E.S.B, and with Upper Den's extensive resources, the track - now named Bethea Speedway - was completed in just over a year.
At first, the venue only opened for occasional public track days for those with MPT vehicles, but mostly served a playground for Upper Den's leadership. This quickly changed, as manufacturers began to reserve private sessions, chasing lap records for various civilian MPT-ship classes. Interest snowballed, with more enthusiasts coming on track days, alongside the growing rivalry between multiple manufacturers frequently trying to outclass one another.
With lots to gain from the surge of interest, Upper Den pitched an endurance event; the 25 Hours of Bethea. No MPT vehicle was officially rated for a 25 hour runtime, but the concept piqued the interest of enthusiasts, pro-level racing pilots, and even a few manufacturers. The event was later officialized in 2779, using the existing layout.
The first run of the 25H of Bethea was a success, and over the course of a few years, it established itself as a pinnacle racing event for racing-sport pilots and manufacturers. Some manufacturers even relocated or opened new branches in Adept, finding Bethea Speedway to be an ideal testing ground.
CAVE/MT. NABETHEA, BETHEA SPEEDWAY
Word began spreading in 2783 that the RSEC were scouting Bethea Speedway as a possible addition to the HSRL calendar.
However, in 2784, a glacier fragment had broken off, falling just on the edge of the circuit. Drawing much concern for the safety of the track (but mainly its potential viability for the HSRL), Upper Den shut the venue down sought a fast, reliable way to make it safer. The search led them back to the E.S.B, with Upper Den asking to periodically assess the venue and the surrounding region, with advisory for safety/structural implementations. The Board's asking price was steep, but with an HSRL slot potentially on the line, Upper Den agreed, starting a long-time partnership between the two.
The deal seemed to be the right call as a few months later, the RSEC had begun talks with Upper Den; and by 2785, Bethea Speedway was on the HSRL calendar as the Nabethea Grand Prix. This would be Erios' second track on the calendar, introduced a few years after Exaria Bay, located at the edge of Adept's Zone 2.

In early 2791, the Board alerted Upper Den to severe instabilities developing across many of Nabethea's glaciers. The venue was closed indefinitely while the two organizations weighed their options. A few months later, during an extensive survey by the Board, small tremors caused the glaciers and other formations in the area to collapse.
It only took a few minutes for destruction to unfold. Many workers from both organizations were killed in the collapse.
Beyond the human toll, much of the speedway's facilities were also destroyed beyond repair; with entire sections of the track now missing. Most notable of which was the T1 sweeper, which had sunk into the ground in various pieces.
☰〔RECOVERY〕AFTERMATH
The start/finish straight had been one of the worst areas of the collapse. When rescue personnel and emergency crews arrived at the scene, it was extremely difficult to extract survivors from whatever remained of the facilities.
BETHEA T1 BEACON, AFTER COLLAPSE
☰〔SCEGVEK PASS〕2791, 2 MONTHS BEFORE COLLAPSE
Before the collapse, Scegvek Pass was the tightest section of Bethea Speedway. Originally a natural pathway used by the E.S.B, it was a crooked straight section defined by cave walls that narrowed and widened without any particular pattern.
☰〔SCEGVEK PASS〕2824, CURRENT STATE
The section was blocked by debris after the collapse. Upper Den and the E.S.B. spent months clearing the area; Scegvek Pass was now exposed to Erios' harsh environment, and the terrain had changed completely.
The circuit was deemed a total loss; both the Board and Upper Den had absorbed severe losses.
Two years would pass, and Upper Den were essentially sitting on a dud with Bethea. Realistically, their best course of action would be to sell off the area and move onto other ventures. But doing so would have severed the funding that had finally let the E.S.B. properly maintain Erios' other conservation sites. In response, the Board pushed Upper Den to rebuild, going so far as to contribute a significant share of its own workforce and equipment under contract.
After multiple meetings, Upper Den agreed to rebuild Bethea.

Expensive and complicated, rebuilding Bethea was going to be a lengthy process. Debris had to be cleared, facilities needed to be rebuilt, and most importantly, they needed to make sure that a severe collapse never happened again.
Upper Den and the E.S.B. engineered unique superstructures, built to prevent natural formations from going unstable. For superstructures designed to hold glaciers, additional technology was also installed inside the ice as an early-warning system. These superstructure concepts were also applied to the new facilities, which had them integrated into the buildings.
☰〔START/FINISH〕CURRENT
The new buildings found at the start/finish straight are a lot bulkier and monolithic compared to their predecessors, due to the superstructures built inside.
TURN 1, MODERN LAYOUT
☰〔T1-T5 COMPLEX〕28XX, CURRENT STATE
Due to the collapse, much of Bethea's topography had changed. Most of the original layout was able to be adapted to the new terrain, however, there was no way to recover the sweeper at Turn 1; especially with how severe the damage was in the area.
Upper Den ended up replacing the sweeper with a new complex of corners, mainly guided by the superstructures that were added. The tunnel through one of the glaciers was initially planned as a base-of-operations for the E.S.B. now that they were more involved with the Nabethean area again, but it ended up serving a second purpose as an element of the circuit. During major racing events (25H, Nabethea GP), the space would turn into a temporary facility for spectators to watch the action.

Bethea Speedway re-opened to the public in 2806. Through its turbulent reconstruction, it has maintained its prestige amongst enthusiasts and pilots alike. The Nabethea Grand Prix still remains as one of the events that fans look forward to the most, while endurance pilots were more than happy to see the 25H of Bethea return.
AESTHETICS
One topic debated by fans is the overall vibe of the circuit, from before and after the collapse. Some fans reminisce about the older layout's emphasis on natural elements and scenery - as well as the daunting and unforgiving cave section - whilst others prefer the mixture of ice and superstructures that give Bethea a look unlike any other venue in the HSRL.
ERIOS SCIENTIFIC BOARD
When the Globals finally secured majority power in the Regency in 2821, one of their main initiatives was to restore many of the programs that InCo had cut throughout their term. Grants to the E.S.B. were included in the initiative, and the organization was re-adopted by the Regency in 2822. This started rumors revolving around the Board and Upper Den, suggesting that the E.S.B. would end the partnership formed between the two in 2784.
Asked for comment by multiple media outlets, E.S.B. commented that they "had no plans to abandon Nabethea and Bethea Speedway, with the site being one of the main reasons [they] still exist."
THE 25 HOURS OF BETHEA
25H of Bethea is the most iconic endurance event in MPT-racing history. For reference, "M12" at Mirage, Remora, Myrl, is also considered to be one of the more iconic endurance events in MPT-racing. However, its attendance figures tend to average slightly less than half of the attendance seen at Bethea.
The 25H is also the only event in the RSEC's Endurance series (IES) that is open to any professional team, even if they aren't registered in the IES.

The original configuration used existing pathways already carved by the Erios Scientific Board, while also incorporating other features of the area, such as the Bethean cave system. From the long start/finish straight, pilots would continue accelerating through the massive T1 sweeper, almost triple the length of the straight. This led into T2 and T3, with T3 being a tight hairpin turn into the T4/T5 bend. The complex from T6 to T12 happened inside the Bethean cave system, which had pilots go through various mid-low speed corners, before emerging into the T13 sweeper. T14 and T15 are both high-speed near-right-angle corners, which then lead into the start/finish straight.
The circuit was only technical through the corners as overall elevation of the original configuration was extremely consistent, making Bethea Speedway a high-speed circuit for pilots.

Outside of the cave system, Sector 2 and 3 (T6 to Start/Finish) are functionally identical to the original layout from 27XX.
The collapse had drastically changed Sector 1 and the Bethean cave system, mainly affecting elevation throughout the sector. The high-speed sweeper at T1 is no longer present, now being replaced by a series of slower corners that go through Sector 1's superstructures. Sector 1 is also lower than the rest of the track, a result of the original surface breaking/sinking.
The Bethean cave system spanning the later half of Sector 2 and the first half of Sector 3 is also different, now exposed to open air in multiple areas. The ground and ceiling have changed shape throughout, now featuring more aggressive gradient changes. Speed through the cave is slower compared to the old layout as pilots now have to face frequent elevation changes.
