TALENT SEEKERS
Epsilon Development is an organization based in Bern, Switzerland. They primarily focus on their youth development program, the EYPP. However, they also run teams for the HS100, HS200, HS-Super and HS300 leagues.
Part One | Overview
FORMATION
Epsilon Development emerged from luxury spacecraft manufacturer, EXSKA. Following EXSKA's financial collapse in 2755, research conglomerate Metton-Alfson acquired the company, recognizing the potential in its core technology. Now dubbed Epsilon, the company was subsequently re-established in Angelholm, Fennoscandia, a region renowned for its advanced engineering capabilities and proximity to key aerospace research institutions.
The company's initial focus was on spacecraft racing. With rumors of the impending HSRL circulating, Epsilon embarked on a project to develop a competitive racing platform. This approach positioned the company as one of the founding members of the HSRL when it was officially launched in 2758.
HSRL
Their participation in the HSRL was mixed. While the intense competition served as a catalyst for rapid technological advancement, the company consistently underperformed relative to its rivals. Despite finishing last in the inaugural season, Epsilon recognized the league as an invaluable testing ground for its spacecraft technology.
Concurrently, Epsilon played an active role in the HSRL's standardization efforts, contributing to the development of the HS300 League regulations. This underscored the company's commitment to the sport and its desire to shape the future of spacecraft racing.
To address the skills gap identified in the racing industry, Epsilon founded the Epsilon Youth Pilots Programme in 2761. This academy, located near the company's headquarters, provided aspiring pilots with world-class training and development opportunities.
ARCTARA
Epsilon's more recent years were marked by significant challenges in developing proprietary propulsion and aerodynamic technologies. Despite substantial research investments, the company struggled to achieve breakthroughs that could propel it to the forefront of the HSRL.
In a move to overcome this, Epsilon entered into a multi-year contract with Arctara AG (formerly REDEX) in 2794. This partnership granted Epsilon access to Arctara's advanced propulsion and aerodynamic systems - essentially turning themselves into Arctara's B-Team. While the decision to rely on external technology was a departure from the company's initial vision, it represented a new approach to developing pilots for the racing scene.
The partnership with Arctara was a turning point for Epsilon. While the company has made significant strides in improving its racing performance, the long-term implications of this reliance others remain to be seen. Epsilon's ability to innovate independently and develop its own cutting-edge solutions will be crucial in determining its future success within the aerospace industry.
