DIFFICULTY LEVEL C

Arctara // T1HSRL's Open Wheel Format is Astrocraft's dedicated racing collective for all ground racing (involving vehicles that run on wheels instead of magic).
We are currently setting up everything needed to get the OWF started. The current regulations proposal will be viewable below.
REFERENCE FRAME
The vehicle's forward axis is not relative to the control seat, it is a horizontal axis parallel to the ground in the forwards direction.
BOUNDING BOX
Max size: 12x12x25 (XYZ)
Min size: 6x3x12 (XYZ)
The vehicle must satisfy these requirements while on the road in its intended configuration, with the Z axis of these volumes facing along the vehicle's forward axis, and the Y axis perpendicular to the ground.
CHASSIS
Vehicles are not subject to a minimum mass.
The control seat must face forwards, but doesn't have to be level with the ground. The seat can be leaned back to fit better into smaller cars.¹
Artificial mass must only be placed in the chassis, and cannot be placed in wheels.
Gyroscopes, Gravity Generators, and weapon components are forbidden.
All competing vehicles are subject to a minimum standard of visual appeal. Engine boxes and the mere stacking of bare components solely for function are expressly forbidden and will result in a rejected time submission.
PROPULSION
Vehicles can use engines or servomotors (or both).²
Maximum forwards/backwards engine acceleration: 150 st/s^2
Measured along the vehicle's forward axis
Maximum servomotor torque³: n/a
Engines must only face forwards/backwards. Thrust in any other direction is forbidden.
WHEELS
Vehicles must have wheels, and the wheels must be the primary source of control while the vehicle is on the road.
Steering can be controlled via turrets or servomotors.
Suspension of any kind (servomotors, spaced hinges, etc) is permitted and encouraged.⁴
TRANSPORTERS
Transporters are defined as an object that can be attached to the vehicle to move it after spawning.
Gyroscope and thrust direction limitations do not apply to a vehicle's transporter.
If a vehicle uses a transporter, it must be detached while in normal operation.
Don't litter. Hold a direction key when releasing a transporter, so that it flies away instead of sticking around the track.
FOOTNOTES
¹ Vehicles with angled seats should set engine thrust directions manually in the config tool, especially if the seat is pitched beyond 45 degrees.
² Pure servo cars are not competitive with thruster cars. Not having to carry engines around makes them lighter, but the cornering advantages are outweighed by significantly worse braking performance and top speed compared to thruster cars.
³ This might change in the future, but for now the only limiter here is your own willpower. High torque servo cars are insufferable to drive.
⁴ If you've never built a car before, don't bother with suspension for your first attempt. It adds quite a bit of complexity to an already complex vehicle.
